Integration of Academic research tool + (much) better PDF viewer (Open-Source Semantic Search + Semantic Reader)

Hi,

Thank you for developing this tool, which seems to be on a good track.

As of now, however, the PDF 'review' is more of a gadget to double-check quotes than a real tool.

  1. A first step could be the integration of Semantic Reader: https://openreader.semanticscholar.org
    • PaperCraft, a React UI component for building augmented and interactive reading interfaces.
    • PaperMage, a library for processing and analyzing scholarly PDFs

You would be the first one (to my knowledge) to do this - and probably would make your solution very attractive in the academic world.

A second step would be to make the PDF reader a PDF editor - to highlight and integrate the LLM's feedback in the PDF itself.

  1. Regarding access to the internet - I would suggest you have a look at the Semantic Scholar API, which would be a clear upgrade: https://www.semanticscholar.org to the usual Wikipedia-like...

Thanks again for your work. I am spending some time trying to find/develop what I think could be a very optimum way of doing research with AI, so I am happy to discuss it. Your solution (which I would describe as of now as between PDF Pals, SciSpace, Coral AI and Fabric as integrated with the Mesh AI plugin in Obsidian) - is really promising, and I can't wait to see what you will bring 😀

Cheers,

John.
